A CAMPAIGN to send a two-year-old from North Yorkshire to America for life-saving treatment has won major backing from a premiership footballer and his celebrity model wife, The Press can reveal.Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy have vowed to do all they can to help Sadie Rose Clifford who has Neuroblastoma and desperately needs pioneering treatment in America to beat the childhood cancer.

The famous couple contacted Sadie’s parents Katie and Darren, of Knaresborough, in response to their heartfelt plea on Twitter for help, and immediately donated towards the £500,000 needed to cover the cost. They have also promised to ask everyone they know including Wayne and Coleen Rooney, Max Clifford, Gareth Barry and Rio Ferdinand to get involved with Sadie’s cause.Along with their donation on JustGiving, the couple said:

“Truly inspirational xx our love and prayers are with u and if there is anything we can do to help please let us know xx.”

The news of Abbey and Peter’s interest couldn’t have come at a better time, as parents Katie and Darren, of Hawthorn Avenue, Knaresborough, have just found out that the pioneering treatment Sadie needs will cost double the £250,000 whcih was originally expected.Katie said Abbey, who has a nine-month-old child, was moved to tears during a phone call they had that lasted nearly an hour.Afterwards on her Twitter page, Abbey said: “Please everyone follow this beautiful truly inspirational little girl and donate whatever u can it all adds up.“Can everyone please please help raise money for this little beautiful baby @sadie_rose09 I’m begging u.”

Katie said that Abbey also told her she would like to arrange a charity auction for Sadie to help the appeal in any way she could.Sadie has been fighting Neuroblastoma almost all of her life.Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, which is the most eminent cancer centre in the world, initially predicted the treatment would cost £250,000 and since May the Cliffords have strived to raise the money. But after The Neuroblastoma Alliance UK (NBA) pledged to make up the difference needed to send Sadie to America, the Hospital realised that the treatment was actually going to cost more than half a million pounds.Allison Moy, Chief Executive of the NBA, said that they were in the process of trying to negotiate the cost down, but it is the only hospital in the world that offers this treatment.“We really want to support Sadie as much as we can. Everyone is doing their best to cover the costs,” she said.

The treatment involves two new drugs called 8H9 and 3F8 and with these, Sadie’s chances of survival will be raised to 80 percent.“But if she can’t get the drug, her chances of long-term survival will unfortunately be none,” said Ms Moy.
